The first stage of the economic recovery after the world war encouraged new business. BGU Baugeräte-Union GmbH & MaschinenhandlesKG – the company which gave birth to the renowned brand BGU-Maschinen emerged in this favourable situation

The dealers of construction machines in Ansbach (Central Francony) established the first commercial relationships with East Germany, aiming at displacing the manufacturing process there.

Cooperation with an Eastern company, VEB-Aufzugbau Nordhausen, started with the purchase of one of their products: the circular saw. In 1979, the combination of the know-how of the two companies led to the production of the first machine under a single brand name, BGU-Maschinen. It was the rolling table saw model RK 600.

BGU Baugeräte-Union started to trade in two business sectors: machines and hardware. The corporate production range in the East was firmly catching on and established itself permanently under the name BGU-Maschinen.

The fall of the Berlin Wall offered the opportunity to acquire the Eastern company: the newly-emerged Südharzer Maschinenbau GmbH is the offspring of BGU Baugeräte-Union.

The two business sectors were divided: after intensive refurbishment works, the proction premises of Südharzer Maschinenbau GmbH became the main operational headquarter of the company. Today the production range includes metal, wood and firewood working machines.

The distribution of the BGU-Maschinen brand expanded its net in German speaking European countries.
The company also started producing for OEM customers such as Oehler and ALKO.

Südharzer Maschinenbau GmbH successfully achieved the ISO 9000 Certificate.

The company management started a modernization process by investing 1.1 Million Euro. This investment involved the acquisition of laser cutting systems, welding robots and a 7-way-creasing machine.

The range of products has been enlarged and now also embraces the Forestry sector.
